Australian Policy Online

Australian Policy Online is an online repository of research articles and commentary pieces relating to public policy in both Australian and international governments.

This site was originally built in 2002 using a proprietary CMS. In late 2008 we begun development on the new site using Drupal 6.

Some of the challenges during this projected included:

• Using many modules in their Drupal 6 version infancy
• Importing a huge repository of existing content to the new platform
• Effectively migrating old URLs to their new addresses
• Dealing with relatively large spikes in traffic with limited server resources
• Building a Drupal based email newsletter module that could handle tens of thousands of subscribers

The redeveloped site launched in May 2009 and has seen great increases in traffic since migrating platforms.
